Emperor Jahangir built this caravanserai about 400 years ago on a major trade route connecting Delhi, Agra, Lahore, and Kashmir. The facility served as a strategic stopping point for the numerous travel groups that used this central corridor.
The central mosque on the courtyard shows how travelers had access to prayer spaces during Mughal times. Religious facilities were a normal part of the infrastructure that served merchant caravans and traveling groups.
