Japanese Garden, Chandigarh, Japanese garden in Sector 31, Chandigarh, India.
The Japanese Garden in Chandigarh is a large green space featuring water bodies, traditional stone sculptures, and pagoda towers arranged according to Japanese design principles. The grounds contain multiple meditation areas and were created so visitors can walk through different garden types and discover varying landscapes.
The Indian Government created this garden in two phases, with the first phase opening in November 2014 and the second phase following in June 2016. It was developed as a project to bring Japanese garden culture to the city and offer visitors a new experience.
The garden brings Japanese design principles to life through water features, pagodas, and meditation spaces that draw visitors into moments of reflection. These traditional elements create a place where people connect with nature and find quietness.
The garden is open daily from early morning until late evening and has no entrance fee, making it an accessible outing for all. The winter months offer the most comfortable conditions for a visit, as temperatures are milder.
An underground tunnel connects two sections of the garden and is decorated with Japanese paintings on both walls. This hidden connection creates a surprising moment for visitors exploring the grounds.
