The Parrot Bird Sanctuary spans 2.9 hectares, with 1.8 hectares open to visitors and 1.1 hectares restricted for wildlife protection purposes.
Established in 1998 under Section 18 of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, this sanctuary became the second wildlife refuge in Chandigarh.
The sanctuary features decorative benches known as Taj Mahal Benches, which have become meeting points for local residents and visitors.
Visitors can observe hundreds of parrots during morning and evening hours when the birds follow their natural photoperiodism patterns of activity.
This sanctuary holds the distinction of being India's first bird sanctuary located within a populated urban environment.
