Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, Metro and railway station in Vaughan, Canada
Vaughan Metropolitan Centre is a metro and railway station in Vaughan featuring postmodern architecture and an underground concourse. The station includes 43 skylights that bring natural light into the subsurface level where platforms and ticketing areas are located.
The station opened in 2017 as the terminal of the York-Spadina Subway Extension. The project resulted from decades of planning to improve transit connections in the region.
An art installation by Paul Raff uses mirrored surfaces throughout the space that respond to passenger movements and train activity. This interactive element creates different visual effects depending on the time of day and how busy the station is.
The station is accessible early in the morning and remains open until late at night, with connections to regional buses, rapid transit, and bicycle facilities. Allow extra time if traveling during peak hours, as the station can become quite crowded.
An X-shaped bridge at street level allows visitors to watch platform activities below through large glass panels. This design connects the world above and below ground in a visual way.
