Gao Yi Tomb, Ancient burial site in Ya'an, China
Gao Yi Tomb is an ancient burial site consisting of two stone towers with a stele positioned between them. The structures feature detailed carved patterns showing people, horses, and animals across all visible surfaces.
The tomb was built during the Eastern Han Dynasty around 209 CE and documents an important period of imperial history. It received national protection status in 1961 as a Major Historical and Cultural Site.
The stone carvings show scenes of daily life and mythological figures that reveal what people valued. Dragons with intertwined tails on the stele pedestal reflect the spiritual beliefs of the era.
The site is located east of Ya'an and is easily accessible on foot. Visiting is possible year-round, with daylight hours being ideal for observing the carved details.
One of the stone towers stands exceptionally tall and represents one of the most complete structures of its kind in the region. This preservation makes the original craftsmanship and construction techniques of that era particularly visible.
