Mount Erlang

Mount Erlang rises 3,437 meters (11,275 feet) above sea level and forms a natural boundary between the Qingyi River and Dadu River in Sichuan Province. Dense pine forests cover the mountain slopes, creating a forested landscape across this dramatic terrain.

The mountain pass served as the first demanding section of the ancient Chuanzang Road, which connected Sichuan to Tibet across challenging terrain. In 2018, the Erlangshan Tunnel was completed, extending 13,433 meters and providing year-round access through the mountain.

Local communities experience the spring season when mountain slopes display colorful azalea blooms in red, blue, purple, and white, attracting numerous butterflies. This seasonal display shapes how people perceive and connect with the landscape throughout the year.

The mountain can be accessed year-round through the Erlangshan Tunnel, which bypasses areas prone to snowfall and storms. Visitors should note that access comes through this tunnel rather than via the traditional mountain pass routes.

Visitors can hear the sound of the Qingyi River mixing with spring waters flowing through mountain brooks as they explore the area. This auditory experience of flowing water creates a memorable sensory connection that many travelers overlook.
