Mugecuo is a mountain lake in the Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture located at approximately 3,700 meters elevation. The water covers roughly three square kilometers and reaches depths of about 70 meters.
The nearby Mount Camel Hump takes its name from ancient legends about a deity whose camel frequently visited this mountain region. This mythological tale forms part of the local oral tradition passed down through generations.
Tibetan and Qiang communities live in the surrounding grasslands and maintain their traditional ways of life in this mountain region. Their presence shapes how the landscape is used and inhabited today.
The lake can be reached from Kangding city along established routes to the site. Visitors should prepare for high altitude and bring weather-appropriate gear, as conditions can change rapidly at this elevation.
The water displays daily color shifts caused by changing light angles and weather patterns throughout the day. These visual effects result from minerals and particles suspended in the water that reflect light differently under various conditions.
