Tung Lo Wan

Tung Lo Wan, Village in Tai Wai district, Hong Kong.

Tung Lo Wan is a village in Sha Tin that spreads across from Mei Lam Estate, with the Tai Wai Nullah forming its western edge. The settlement contains traditional residential structures and ancestral buildings scattered throughout the area.

The settlement began in the early 1900s when the Tse clan settled here and established their ancestral hall before 1910. This period marked the formation of a clan-based village organized around family lineages and shared land use.

The Tse Ancestral Hall serves as a gathering place where villagers connect with their family history and participate in local ceremonies. You can observe how this building remains central to daily community life and kinship bonds.

The village is governed by the New Territories Small House Policy, which controls building and land use for long-established residents. Visitors should be aware that much of the area is privately owned and respect boundaries around residential properties.

Li Cottage, built in 1918, connects to the Li Tomb through a marked path that winds uphill. This link between residence and burial site reveals how families organized their land and honored their ancestors through physical layout.
