Museum für Ur- und Frühgeschichte Thüringens, Archaeological museum in Weimar, Germany.
The Museum für Ur- und Frühgeschichte Thüringens displays prehistoric artifacts, tools, and remains spanning 400,000 years of human history in a 1000-square-meter exhibition space.
Founded in 1888 by the Naturwissenschaftlichen Verein, the museum originated from Bruno Schwabe's collection and gained recognition through Pleistocene discoveries in the Ilmtal region.
The museum presents original excavation findings from the Neolithic period through Middle Ages, including Germanic artifacts from Haßleben and Niederdorla sacrificial bog.
Located on Amalienstraße in Weimar, the museum opens Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 to 17:00, with extended hours on Tuesdays until 18:00, and weekends from 10:00.
The anthropological collection contains significant hominid remains discovered at Weimar-Ehringsdorf and Bilzingsleben sites, dating back hundreds of thousands of years.
