Beheira Governorate is an administrative region in the northern Nile Delta of Egypt. The capital Damanhur lies roughly 160 kilometers northwest of Cairo and functions as the administrative center for surrounding towns and rural areas.
Administrative structures in this region emerged during Ottoman times and were reorganized in the 19th century under Muhammad Ali. The modern governorate was established in the 20th century as part of Egyptian central administration.
