Faiyum Governorate, Governorate in Upper Egypt
The Faiyum Governorate extends across 6,068 square kilometers of land, containing a natural depression with fertile lands, lakes, and desert territories southwest of Cairo.
During the 12th dynasty between 1938-1756 BCE, this region functioned as a central Egyptian province near the capital, supporting administrative and economic activities.
The name derives from Coptic word Phiom meaning sea or lake, reflecting the regional identity shaped by Lake Moeris and agricultural traditions.
The region contains two designated industrial zones, including el-Fath city in Koum Osheem covering 1102 feddans and Quota area spanning over 2000 feddans.
Lake Qaroun within the governorate maintains saltwater fish populations, supporting a commercial fishing industry in this landlocked Egyptian region.
