Babylon Fortress

Babylon Fortress is an ancient stronghold that once stood on the banks of the Nile River in Cairo. The site contains remains of defensive walls and structures built to protect trade routes and control the surrounding territory.

The fortress was established by Roman troops around the 1st century to secure their interests along the Nile. It remained standing for many centuries and experienced various conquests and transformations under successive rulers.

The fortress once housed Christian churches within its underground chambers, revealing the religious diversity of the era. These hidden spaces beneath the ruins tell the story of how the site served as a refuge for persecuted communities.
