Medaram, village in Telangana, India

Medaram is a small village in the Tadvai Mandal area of Mulugu District in Telangana, surrounded by dense forests and quiet surroundings. It sits in a rural setting where people live in simple houses and mostly farm the land, but every two years it transforms into a huge gathering place for millions of pilgrims and visitors.

The village has a long history as a sacred place for tribal communities, with deep roots in local legends about the goddesses Sammakka and Saralamma. Over time, the Jathara gathering has grown into Asia's largest tribal gathering and draws people from several states.

The village is home to the Sammakka-Saralamma Jathara, one of Asia's largest tribal gatherings held every two years, which carries deep spiritual meaning for the local community. People from several states come here to honor local goddesses and practice traditional rituals such as bringing offerings, showing how faith and kinship are woven into everyday life.

The best time to visit is during the Jathara gathering, which happens every two years and draws millions of visitors, though the place gets very crowded at that time. Buses from different parts of Telangana run directly to the village, and medical facilities and police stations are set up nearby for safety.

The village hosts the Tribal Museum, opened in 2016 and renovated in 2022, which displays artifacts and stories about the tribes who have lived in the forests for generations. Nearby Bogatha Waterfalls and cycling routes offer a quiet place to explore the natural beauty of the region outside of festival time.
