Thol Wildlife Sanctuary, Wildlife sanctuary near Kadi, Gujarat, India.
The sanctuary spans 700 hectares with a central lake, surrounding marshlands and scrub forests that support diverse ecosystems for numerous species.
The Gaekwad administration constructed an irrigation tank in 1912, which later gained protected status as Thol Wildlife Sanctuary in 1988.
Local farmers maintain traditional water usage rights from the lake, demonstrating the balance between conservation and agricultural needs in Gujarat.
The sanctuary opens daily from 6:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with the winter months from November to February offering prime bird watching opportunities.
The sanctuary hosts over 20,000 waterfowl during winter migration, including 150 bird species, with 90 distinct waterbird species identified.
