Toei Kyoto Studio Park, Japanese theme park
Toei Kyoto Studio Park is a working film studio and theme park combined in Ukyō Ward, with historical street scenes built from various periods of Japanese history. The grounds display authentically designed old streets, temples, and houses where actors in costumes work daily and over 200 films and shows are produced each year.
The park was originally founded in 1975 as a real film studio and later developed into a place where the public could visit. Over time, it became a combination of active studio and theme park, allowing visitors to step into the world of Japanese film production.
The streets are designed in Edo style and show how people lived and worked in earlier Japan. Visitors see actors in period costumes performing daily activities and demonstrating traditional crafts throughout the park.
The site is easy to reach and takes less than an hour by bus or train from Kyoto Station. Plan to visit during weekend hours when the park is most active, and allow a full day to explore both the park attractions and nearby historic temples and gardens.
Visitors can dress in traditional Edo-period costumes and walk through the grounds for about an hour as a character themselves. This experience allows people to place themselves into the scenes and experience photography from an entirely new perspective.
