Tarumiyama Kofun

Tarumiyama Kofun is a large burial complex with a distinctive keyhole shape, consisting of a square lower section and a round upper portion. The entire mound was originally covered with stones and is now surrounded by a small park with pathways that allow visitors to grasp the form of this monument.

This burial site was constructed in the middle of the 6th century, when Japan's Kofun period was at its height. It stands as evidence that such elaborate structures were built over multiple generations.

This burial mound shows how ancient Japanese communities honored and laid their deceased to rest. The structure and scale give visitors a sense of the social differences that existed in that era.

The site is easily accessible by public transportation and is located in a residential area with good walking paths. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and allow enough time to explore the park and the surrounding area.

The monument is managed by the Imperial Household Agency and receives special protection because of its archaeological significance. Several similar mounds exist in the immediate vicinity, together forming a network of burial sites from the same era.
