Shirakoma Pond

Shirakoma Pond is an artificial reservoir nestled in Nagano Prefecture at roughly 1,450 meters elevation. The water is surrounded by forest and reflects the surrounding landscape in its clear surface.

The pond was created as an artificial water body in eastern Shinshu and became an important reservoir for the region. Its construction shaped the landscape and it remains a key feature of the local environment today.

The forest surrounding the pond harbors hundreds of moss species that visitors notice while walking through the area. This variety shapes the character of the place and makes it feel like a special natural environment.

A walking path circles the water and takes visitors on a complete loop in roughly one hour. The route is easy to follow and offers several spots where you can stop to take in views of the water and forest.

Japanese spruce and white birch trees fill the surrounding forest and change colors with the seasons, creating reflections that shift throughout the year. These seasonal transformations give the location a different appearance with each visit.
