Jingū-ji

Jingū-ji is a Buddhist temple in Futenma featuring a main hall with a golden Kannon statue and traditional nagare-zukuri architecture that gives it a distinctive appearance. Multiple prayer spaces are scattered throughout the grounds, creating different areas for worship and reflection.

This temple was founded in 1459 during the reign of Ryukyuan King Sho Taikyu, establishing deep roots in the region's spiritual heritage. After its destruction in World War II, reconstruction in 1997 returned it to the community as a restored place of worship.

The temple serves as a center for Shingon Buddhist worship, where visitors can observe regular ceremonies and seasonal festivals that remain part of the community's spiritual life. The grounds and rituals reflect how this practice continues to matter to those who come here.

The temple sits next to Futenma Shrine and is easy to reach on foot, with an honor-system shop available for purchasing items if needed. You can walk the grounds freely without charge, making it simple to explore at your own pace.
