Tōjiin Ritsumeikan University Station, railway station in Kyoto, Kyoto prefecture, Japan
Tōjiin Ritsumeikan University Station is a surface railway station in Kyoto located near the Kinugasa Campus of the university and operated by Keifuku Electric Railroad. It sits on the Randen Kitano Line with two platforms on opposite sides of the tracks, serving passengers heading to different parts of the city.
The station opened in 1925 and originally served travelers under the name Tōjiin Station. In 2020 it received its current name to clarify its proximity to Ritsumeikan University and emphasize the connection to both major institutions in the area.
The station's name since 2020 connects both the nearby Tōjiin temple and Ritsumeikan University, showing how closely the institution is woven into local life. The area is shaped by the blend of student activity and historic sites, with young people moving through daily and bringing energy to the surroundings.
The station sits at ground level without underground passages and is easy to navigate with clear signage and waiting benches. Visitors can reach it by walking from the campus or use the Randen Kitano Line to reach other parts of Kyoto.
The station holds Japan's longest station name made up of 26 hiragana characters, a local distinction that surprises many visitors. This length came from the deliberate choice to include both the temple name and the university to reflect both important places in the area.
