Shizuoka City Serizawa Keisuke Art Museum

The Shizuoka City Serizawa Keisuke Art Museum is a biographical art museum in Suruga-ku that houses over 5,800 works. The collection includes stencil-dyed textiles, paintings, and personal items created by master craftsman Keisuke Serizawa.

The master craftsman Keisuke Serizawa was born in Shizuoka in 1895 and later donated his extensive art collection to his hometown. The museum opened in 1981 to preserve and display this significant collection to the public.

The museum displays traditional Japanese katazome stencil-dyeing techniques through various items such as kimonos, folding screens, and bound books. Visitors can see how these craft methods were applied to both everyday and decorative objects.

The museum is located near Shizuoka JR station and is open Tuesday through Sunday. It is easily accessible and provides ample space to explore the extensive collection.

A special feature is Serizawa's original house from Miyagi Prefecture that was relocated to the museum grounds. The house is surrounded by its original garden trees, offering visitors insight into his private life.
