本覚寺, Buddhist temple in Suruga-ku, Japan
Located at 1379 Ikeda, Bonkakuji Temple features a central hall, traditional gardens, and multiple auxiliary buildings within its spacious grounds.
Founded in 1330 by Nichiren disciple Nichi-i, who established the temple after spending twelve years spreading Buddhist teachings in the Ikeda region.
The temple holds annual ceremonies including the Founder's Memorial Day on April 23rd, where precious artifacts and sacred writings are displayed.
Visitors can reach Bonkakuji by walking 24 minutes south from Kensogyo Stadium Station, with telephone inquiries possible at 054-262-3478.
The temple preserves authentic handwritten manuscripts by Saint Nichiren and houses a wooden statue of Shakyamuni Buddha from medieval Japan.
