Villa Bonnier

Villa Bonnier is a residential palace in Diplomatstaden with red brick facades, copper details framing the upper windows, and a structured roof above the main entrance. The building combines classical proportions with contemporary design features across its substantial grounds.

Architect Ragnar Östberg designed this residence in 1927 for book publisher Åke Bonnier and his wife Eva Bachner. The state acquired it in 1981 and converted it into an official residence for governmental representation.

The interior walls display murals by Isaac Grünewald and artistic works by Bertil Lybeck, Yngve Berg, and Hilding Linnqvist. These pieces shape how the rooms feel and reflect the artistic vision of those who originally created the home.

The building sits in Diplomatstaden and is surrounded by gardens designed as part of the overall property plan. Keep in mind that this is an official governmental residence, so access may be limited or restricted.

The garden layout was planned by architect Ragnar Östberg together with garden specialist Gösta Reuterswärd in 1925, even before the main building was completed. This early collaboration meant the outdoor spaces were central to the original design vision.
