MTower, Art Nouveau skyscraper in Queenstown, Singapore
The mTower is an Art Nouveau office skyscraper in Queenstown, Singapore, standing 183 meters tall with 42 floors. Its facade features curved lines and ornamental details typical of that style, setting it apart from most office towers in the city.
The building was completed in 1985, during a period when Singapore was actively expanding its port and reshaping its skyline. It originally served as the headquarters of the port authority before being renamed mTower as new tenants moved in.
The tower also goes by the Chinese name 港务集团大厦, which ties it directly to Singapore's port authority. This name still appears on official signage today, reminding visitors of the building's original purpose.
The tower is easy to spot from the surrounding streets in Queenstown. Access inside is generally limited to tenants and visitors with appointments in one of the offices.
Art Nouveau reached its peak in Europe in the early 20th century, yet this tower was built in Singapore decades later using the same style. That makes it one of the very few skyscrapers anywhere in the world to apply that ornamental language at such a scale.
