HMS Grebe

HMS Grebe was a military airfield located near Alexandria in Egypt, serving as a naval aviation base for British operations. The facility could accommodate up to 72 aircraft and functioned as a coordination center for Fleet Air Arm units operating across Egypt and the Western Desert.

The site started as a civilian airport and was converted into a naval air station called HMS Grebe in September 1940. It supported British naval aviation operations throughout World War II until its closure in March 1946.

The base brought together British and Greek military personnel who worked side by side during wartime operations. This cooperation reflected the broader alliance efforts in the Mediterranean region.
