Kanaka Durga Varadhi, Bridge near Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada, India
Kanaka Durga Varadhi is a concrete road bridge over the Krishna River in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, linking the eastern and western parts of the city. It carries multiple traffic lanes and has a dedicated walkway along its side for pedestrians.
The bridge was completed in 2021 as part of an effort to ease traffic across the Krishna River in Vijayawada. Before it opened, drivers and pedestrians had to rely on older crossings farther from this part of the city.
The bridge takes its name from the Kanaka Durga Temple, which stands on the Indrakeeladri hill nearby and draws pilgrims from across India. Crossing it feels like joining a steady flow of devotees heading toward the shrine, especially during festival seasons.
Walking across is most comfortable in the early morning or late afternoon, when traffic is lighter and the air is cooler. The pedestrian path runs along the side of the bridge and gives open views of the river and the surrounding hills.
From the walkway, you can see the Indrakeeladri hill and the river below at the same time, without moving from one spot. On clear days, the reflection of the hill in the water makes the view particularly striking from the southern edge of the bridge.
