Talra Wildlife Sanctuary

Located in Himachal Pradesh, Talra Wildlife Sanctuary spans 40 square kilometers across elevations ranging from 1,500 to 3,324 meters above sea level.

Established as a sanctuary in 1962, Talra received official protection status under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 and was renotified in 1974.

The sanctuary contains forests characteristic of both Upper Western Himalayas and Lower Western Himalayas, featuring oak, fir, deodar, and bhoj patra trees.

Situated 92 kilometers from Shimla, the sanctuary experiences temperatures between 4 and 28 degrees Celsius, with snowfall covering the area until March.

The sanctuary houses rare snow leopards alongside other species including Himalayan black bears, flying squirrels, and the globally threatened western tragopan.
