Arg, Presidential palace in Kabul, Afghanistan.
The Arg Palace stands in the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul, surrounded by water-filled trenches and military quarters within its fortified walls.
Following the destruction of Bala Hissar during the Second Anglo-Afghan War in 1880, Emir Abdur Rahman Khan ordered the construction of this new presidential residence.
The palace design reflects Afghan architectural traditions with its central courtyard, grand reception halls, and ceremonial spaces for governmental functions and diplomatic meetings.
The palace complex contains administrative offices, meeting rooms, the presidential residence, and security facilities within a secured perimeter in central Kabul.
In August 2021, Taliban forces entered and occupied the palace, marking a defining moment in Afghan governance as President Ashraf Ghani departed the country.
