The stadium features an artificial turf surface and concrete stands arranged in an oval shape, accommodating 25,000 spectators for sporting events.

King Amanullah Khan ordered the construction of this stadium in 1923 following Afghanistan's independence from British control through the Anglo-Afghan Treaty.

The stadium hosted a performance by Duke Ellington in 1963 during his State Department-sponsored tour through Afghanistan.

The facility serves as the primary training ground for Afghanistan's national football teams and local clubs in the Afghan Premier League.

The first international football match at this location occurred in 1941 between Afghanistan and Iran, resulting in a scoreless draw.
