Aiguille du Croc

Aiguille du Croc is a mountain in the French Alps featuring steep slopes and varied rock formations across its terrain. Multiple marked trails cross the mountain, rising from forested lower sections to open rocky areas near the summit.

During the 17th century, silver deposits in the valleys below the mountain attracted workers and generated wealth that shaped local communities. Mining activity during this period influenced how settlements developed and trade routes formed in the alpine region.

Shepherds use the high pastures around the mountain each summer to graze herds and produce regional cheese following methods passed down through generations. This tradition continues to shape how people live and work in these alpine valleys.

Access to the trails starts from the Peisey chairlift, which provides a convenient starting point for hikers heading upward. Weather conditions can change quickly at higher elevations, so it is wise to prepare for varying conditions throughout the day.

The mountain contains cargneule, an iron-rich rock type that requires caution during thunderstorms. This mineral composition makes the upper sections particularly exposed to lightning strikes during severe weather.
