Rochers de la Grande Balme

Rochers de la Grande Balme is a mountain summit near Tignes with steep rocky cliffs and jagged rock formations. The terrain displays varied patterns created by natural erosion and frost weathering at different elevations.

The summit became widely known in early 2023 when two major avalanches occurred during a winter sports event. This led to enhanced safety measures and ongoing monitoring of the area.

Local mountaineers frequently gather at the Rochers de la Grande Balme to practice traditional alpine climbing techniques and share mountain safety knowledge.

The summit can be reached via marked trails starting from Tignes Val Claret at about 2120 meters elevation. In winter, ski routes are available but require caution and knowledge of current snow conditions.

The mountain contains specific snow accumulation patterns that create natural powder reserves reaching depths of 5 to 10 centimeters at elevations between 2500-3000 meters.
