Jizerské hory Protected Landscape Area

The Isergebirge landscape protection area is a mountain region with granite peaks, dense forests, wetlands, and streams running through narrow valleys. The terrain supports diverse plant and animal life across different elevations and habitat types.

The area was officially designated as a protected landscape in 1968, making it one of the earliest nature reserves established in the Czech Republic. This early protection reflected growing concern for preserving the region's natural character.

Traditional mountain buildings like wooden cottages and stone chapels dot the landscape and reflect how people have lived here for generations. These structures blend naturally with the surrounding forests and show the regional building style.

The area is accessible for hiking and outdoor activities year-round with well-marked trails throughout the region. Winter brings groomed cross-country skiing routes, while summer offers mountain biking on established paths.

The central plateaus contain rare peat bogs and natural springs at heights between 800 and 1000 meters that harbor plant species found nowhere else in the region. These wetlands create distinct ecosystems worth observing on trails.
