Architects Bliss & Faville constructed this building between 1922 and 1924 to serve as headquarters for Matson Navigation Company. It was designed to support shipping and trade connections between the West Coast and the Hawaiian Islands.
The building served as a key business hub connecting mainland and Hawaiian commerce for decades. Many companies operating between California and Hawaii maintained offices here to manage their trade operations.
