Chevrolet Motor Company Building, building in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas

The Chevrolet Motor Company Building is a four-story factory of concrete and brick located on Commerce Street in Dallas. It features wide windows divided by red brick spandrels and a flat roof that reflects its practical, functional design from the early industrial era.

The building was constructed in 1923 and served as a Chevrolet factory for making cars and parts until around 1935. After Chevrolet left, government agencies including the Resettlement Administration and Department of Agriculture took over the space during the 1930s and 1940s.

The building is also known as Deep Ellum Lofts, anchoring a neighborhood with deep roots in music and art. The conversion to residential apartments shows how people today find new cultural meaning in old industrial spaces while honoring their past.

The building is located at 3221 Commerce Street in a neighborhood that mixes old factories with new apartments, making it easy to find and visit. The original industrial structure remains visible even though the space is now divided into residential units, so you can experience its historical character from the outside.

The building became known as Deep Ellum Lofts after its conversion to residential apartments, revealing how factory spaces with open layouts and industrial features are lived in today. Though walls have been added, the original structure remains visible and continues to tell the story of its industrial past.
