Kabul hoard, Coin hoard in Kabul, Afghanistan
The collection contains one thousand silver coins and pieces of jewelry discovered during construction work near Chaman-i Hazouri Park in central Kabul.
The hoard dates back to 380 BCE and includes numerous Achaemenid coins alongside Greek currency from the fifth and fourth centuries BCE.
The discovery demonstrates trade connections between ancient Greek, Persian, and Indian civilizations through the presence of various regional coins.
Researchers use the hoard to establish precise dates for early Indian punch-marked coins by comparing them with dated Greek and Persian specimens.
The collection features archaic staters from Aegina and Thasos, revealing monetary exchanges between distant regions prior to Alexander's eastern conquests.
