Casa Museo Basadre, House museum in Tacna, Peru.
Casa Museo Basadre is a single-story house built in republican architectural style, with adobe walls, wooden columns, and two interior courtyards connected by a passage. The rooms are arranged to show the layout and original character of the residence.
The house was declared a historical monument in 1978 and was formerly the residence of Peruvian historian Jorge Basadre Grohmann. He was an important researcher who documented and shaped the study of Peru's history.
The house bears the name of the Peruvian historian who lived here and displays his personal collection of books and handwritten documents. Visitors can see the rooms where this important scholar worked and conducted his research.
The museum is located at San Martin Street 212 at the corner of Inclan Street and operates Monday through Saturday. Visitors should allow enough time to walk through the rooms at a comfortable pace.
The house preserves a wax cast of the historian's death mask and a plaster mold of his right hand. These personal objects provide an unexpected insight into the physical existence of this historical figure.
