Yungay Province

Yungay Province stretches across 1,361 square kilometers of mountainous terrain, containing eight districts within the central Andes mountain range.

The province, established on October 28, 1904, underwent territorial changes throughout the 20th century as new districts were incorporated into its boundaries.

The population consists predominantly of Quechua-speaking communities, with over 73 percent of residents learning this indigenous language during their childhood.

The provincial capital connects to neighboring regions through a network of roads, while public transportation services operate between the eight district centers.

The province borders include both the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Negra mountain ranges, with Waskaran peak marking its southern boundary.
