Alto Selva Alegre District

Alto Selva Alegre is an administrative district in Arequipa Province located on a high plateau at about 2,500 meters (8,200 feet) elevation. The area consists mainly of residential neighborhoods packed densely together with schools, markets, and local services scattered throughout.

The district was officially established in 1992 as part of administrative reorganization in the province. This creation helped manage the rapid residential growth happening in the region at that time.

Local traditions blend everyday urban life with highland customs that neighbors share during community celebrations and gatherings throughout the year.

The district connects to downtown Arequipa through public transportation, making it easy to travel between neighborhoods and reach the city center. Essential facilities like shops, health centers, and schools are distributed throughout the residential areas.
