Licán Ray, town in Araucania, Chile
Licán Ray is a small settlement on the shore of Lake Calafquén in the Los Ríos Region. The town spreads along the waterfront with residential houses, basic shops, and a handful of restaurants serving fish and local dishes.
The settlement originated as a traditional Mapuche community living by this lake for centuries. Modern development arrived with tourism and remains the backbone of the local economy.
The best time to visit is between December and March when the weather is warmer. The streets are straightforward to walk, and most places are easily reached on foot.
The lake provides good fishing waters, and many visitors come specifically to catch local fish species. Some restaurants buy fish directly from anglers and prepare it the same day.
