Huerquehue National Park

The park spans 12,500 hectares of mountainous terrain in the Andes foothills, featuring ancient Araucaria forests, crystalline lakes, and diverse wildlife species.

Established in 1912 as Benjamin Vicuña Mackenna Park covering 265,000 hectares, the area was officially designated as Huerquehue National Park in 1967.

The name Huerquehue comes from Mapudungun language, meaning 'place of messengers', reflecting the deep connection between local indigenous communities and forest sounds.

Visitors can access the park through Pucón, located 35 kilometers away, with options for camping at 18 designated sites near Tilquilco Lake.

The park contains multiple ancient Araucaria trees that can live over 3,000 years, alongside rare species like the Chiloé marsupial and the world's smallest deer.
