Road of the Seven Lakes, Scenic mountain road in Neuquén Province, Argentina

Road of the Seven Lakes is a mountain route in Neuquén Province, Argentina, that runs roughly 107 kilometers (about 66 miles) through dense forests and past several highland lakes. The route alternates between paved and gravel sections, with the roadway narrowing in places and winding through steep slopes overlooking the water.

The route began as a connecting path between settlements before becoming part of Argentina's national highway expansion in the 1930s. Later works widened the roadway and improved access to the two national parks, opening the region to visitors.

The original name refers to seven major lakes along the route, though travelers today often pass more than this count. At several viewpoints, drivers regularly stop to photograph the turquoise water or take short walks through the forests.

Travelers should fuel their vehicle and bring food before setting out, as no gas stations or shops line the route. The road is generally passable only between December and March, while snow in winter can close sections.

The Correntoso River, flowing between two lakes, measures only 200 meters (about 656 feet) and ranks among the shortest rivers in the world. Its fast-flowing water is so clear that you can see the gravel bed from the shore.
