Residencia El Messidor, French-style castle in Villa La Angostura, Argentina.
Residencia El Messidor is a granite building in Villa La Angostura with two stories, a basement, a circular library, and spacious dining rooms. Views from these rooms overlook Lake Nahuel Huapi.
Sara Madero de Demaría commissioned architect Alejandro Bustillo to design it in 1940, with construction finished in January 1942. Since 1964 it has served as the official residence of the Neuquén provincial government.
The name comes from the French Revolutionary calendar, where Messidor represented the tenth month of the harvest season. This concept still shapes the place's identity today.
The building sits on extensive grounds with geometric gardens that are pleasant to walk through. Its location on the lakeshore provides easy access to walking paths and nature exploration.
The property covers around 36 hectares with geometrically designed gardens filled with colihue bamboo, pine, and cypress trees. This blend of European and South American species creates an unusual botanical landscape.
