Villa La Angostura, Mountain municipality in Los Lagos Department, Argentina
Villa La Angostura is a mountain municipality positioned between Nahuel Huapi Lake and Correntoso Lake at 780 meters elevation, surrounded by peaks reaching 2000 meters. The town nestles in this lake-and-mountain landscape with forested slopes on all sides.
The municipality emerged in 1932 when influential settlers Primo Capraro and Ezequiel Bustillo established residences in this previously rural Patagonian area. This founding period marked the shift from isolated territory to a deliberate community development project.
The buildings follow strict architectural guidelines with wooden Alpine designs that preserve the character of a mountain village throughout the town. This unified style shapes how the place looks and feels when you walk through it.
The town connects to Bariloche through a 90-kilometer route and provides access to Cerro Bayo Ski Center during winter sports season. Visitors should bring water-resistant clothing year-round since this region receives heavy rainfall throughout the year.
The region receives over 2000 millimeters of annual rainfall, making it one of Argentina's wettest areas with dense forest growth as a result. This moisture creates landscapes where green mosses and ferns cover much of the forest floor and tree trunks.
