Casa de Italia, Viña del Mar, National monument building at Calle Alvares, Viña del Mar, Chile.
Casa de Italia is a two-story building in Viña del Mar featuring a mansard roof and a blend of Romanesque and Neogothic elements. A large front garden with an ornate iron gate marks the boundary between the house and the sidewalk.
The building was constructed between 1914 and 1918 as a private residence for Carlos Werner Rither, owner of a major textile factory. It later changed hands and became a center for the Italian community's activities.
The building has served the Italian community since 1966 as a meeting place for dance groups, sports clubs, and art exhibitions that keep Italian traditions alive. Visitors can see how the spaces host regular community gatherings and celebrations throughout the year.
The building is visible from the street and displays its historical architecture clearly from the front. The spacious front garden allows visitors to view the structure and photograph its details.
A fire in December 2019 destroyed much of the second floor and damaged significant historical interior elements. The ongoing restoration reflects efforts to preserve this heritage building.
