Valle Nevado, Ski resort in Lo Barnechea, Chile
Valle Nevado is a ski resort in the Andes with over 40 kilometers of slopes spanning elevations between 2,860 and 3,670 meters (9,383 and 12,041 feet). The resort operates 17 lifts to access different slope sections.
The resort opened in 1987 inspired by French ski centers, becoming the first modern skiing facility in Chile. Its creation brought new standards for winter tourism to South America.
The resort's restaurants serve regional Chilean dishes, giving visitors a taste of local food culture while they enjoy mountain activities.
The ski season runs from June through October with equipment rentals and multilingual instruction programs available. Plan for high elevation conditions and bring warm layers.
The resort installed the Andes Express in 2001, South America's first detachable chairlift, which transformed mountain access. This technology made it faster to reach the higher slope sections.
