Pampa Hermosa National Sanctuary

Pampa Hermosa National Sanctuary is a protected area in the mountains between the provinces of Tarma and Chanchamayo in central Peru. The land features mountain forests at different elevations and holds a variety of plant and animal life.

The Peruvian government declared this mountain forest a protected area in 2009. The move aimed to preserve the woodlands and safeguard ecological balance in the highland region.

The sanctuary sits in an area where local communities have lived alongside the forest for generations. These people know the woodland deeply through daily life and seasonal patterns.

Visitors should expect changing weather conditions and steep paths that traverse different elevation zones. Good footwear and weatherproof clothing are necessary to explore the trails safely.

This protected area is home to animals found nowhere else, such as the Andean cock-of-the-rock and the spectacled bear. These special species depend on these mountain forests to survive.
