Latacunga Canton, Administrative canton in Cotopaxi Province, Ecuador.
The canton spans 1,377 square kilometers across the Andes mountains, with elevations ranging from 1,800 to 5,897 meters above sea level.
Established on June 24, 1824, the canton initially belonged to Pichincha Province before becoming part of Cotopaxi Province in October 1851.
The population of 217,261 inhabitants includes Mestizo, Indigenous, White, and Afro-Ecuadorian communities, who speak both Spanish and Quichua languages.
The territory divides into urban parishes, including La Matriz and San Buenaventura, plus ten rural parishes such as Toacaso and Mulaló.
The region receives high sunlight exposure throughout the year, making it a center for flower production and agricultural exports in Ecuador.
