El Fuerte de Samaipata, Pre-Columbian archaeological site in Samaipata, Bolivia
The sandstone rock measures 250 meters in length and 60 meters in width, containing carvings of snakes, pumas, jaguars, and geometric patterns.
The Chane people first inhabited the site around 300 CE, followed by Inca occupation in the 14th century who established an administrative center.
The rock surface displays carved images of two condors and representations of Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, the mythical founders of the Inca Empire.
The archaeological complex sits at an elevation of 1950 meters and requires a four-hour walk or vehicle transport from Samaipata town.
The site contains the largest carved rock in the Americas, featuring both ceremonial areas and administrative structures spread across multiple hectares.
