Preparatory School of the Brazilian Army, Military school in Campinas, Brazil
The school is a military academy in Campinas, São Paulo state, where young candidates complete a one-year program preparing them for higher military education. The campus includes teaching buildings, dormitories, sports facilities, and training grounds for more than five hundred cadets at a time.
The institution opened in 1940 to establish a standardized foundation for future officers in the army. For decades it served only male applicants, until 2017 when it first admitted female cadets.
All training takes place inside the compound, where candidates move between classrooms, sports fields, and shared spaces in a fixed daily rhythm. This enclosed routine combines academic work with physical conditioning and creates a sense of shared experience among those preparing for military careers.
Access to the grounds is usually restricted to visitors and requires prior authorization. Those wishing to enroll undergo a selection exam that tests knowledge in mathematics, sciences, and languages.
When female cadets joined in 2017, infrastructure and curricula were adjusted, including new accommodation and revised training methods. This shift ended a long male-only tradition and opened the military path to both genders.
