Caminho Niemeyer

Caminho Niemeyer stretches 11 kilometers along Niteroi's coastline, housing multiple modernist buildings designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer. The complex brings together museums, theaters, and memorials connected as a unified architectural pathway.

Construction of this architectural complex began in January 2002, following initiatives from the 1990s to transform Niteroi's waterfront district. The project emerged from efforts to redefine the city through significant architectural works.

The center hosts nine completed projects including the Contemporary Art Museum, Popular Theater, and Roberto Silveira Memorial, where artistic events happen regularly. These buildings function as spaces where the city expresses its artistic identity through exhibitions and performances.

The complex offers multiple access points to its various buildings along with parking facilities and public transportation connections throughout Niteroi. Visitors can explore the pathway on foot, making it helpful to plan the route based on specific interests.

The site holds the second largest collection of Niemeyer's architectural works, surpassed only by the capital city of Brasilia. This concentration makes it a particularly important location for studying the architect's legacy.
