The Municipal Palace of Niterói stands at the intersection of Visconde do Uruguai and São Pedro streets, displaying classical architectural elements across its facade.
Built in 1914, the structure replaced the former Chamber and Jail House of Niterói, which served as the Municipal Chamber until 1975.
The building houses the Niterói Academy of Letters and the Historical and Geographic Institute, contributing to the preservation of local heritage.
The Municipal Palace now functions as headquarters for the Municipal Education Department and Education Foundation of Niterói.
The construction emerged from Mayor Feliciano Sodré's urban renewal plans, which aimed to remove Imperial period structures from the city center.
